Welcome to our Autumn Newsletter. We do hope that you, like all of us here at The Cottages are feeling upbeat and positive about future plans. It’s so wonderful to see travel opening up again.

Let’s put you in the mood with some of Richard Murphy’s beautiful images in the Irish Garden magazine.

The Irish Garden magazine cover

The late summer 2021 edition of the Magazine held us spell bound with the excellent feature by Shirley Lanigan on the gardens here at The Cottages. Shirley visited us mid Summer and painted a marvellously descriptive picture over 6 pages, perfectly complimented by Garden Photographer Richard Murphy’s superb images.

Gardens to Visit

New Entrance and Car Free Beach

A wonderful new village bypass has been created over the past year providing wide paths and carparking space for easy access to the beach and other amenities. We now have a spacious new drive exclusively dedicated to The Cottages, this runs right up to the gates with grassed areas either side and a small turning circle. The area is now open and spacious providing a safe exit. With traffic calming in place The Cottages have become an even more peaceful haven, if that were possible?

Beach side peace also reigns with our wonderful 12K stretch of sandy coastline now Car-free and being enjoyed by young and old alike, truly a joy to experience.

Laytown Races 2021

Horses racing on the beach

Talking beach, as we watch many of our Annual Sports Events come back into play we’re delighted to report that the Laytown Strand Races are scheduled to run on the 1st of November 2021, tickets will be on sale in October. The races have been run here on the sand since 1886 making it one of the oldest race meeting and uniquely the only beach race run under Jockey Club rules in the Northern hemisphere, what a remarkable piece of living history!

As Luck Would Have it – A Hallmark TV Production

In February there was great excitement as news of a TV film “As Luck Would Have It” was going to be filmed in the Boyne Valley. Little did we know that The Cottages was to be one of the desired film locations.

Crew filming "As luck would have it"

The film Crew arrived and what was supposed to be a beautiful spring day had every kind of weather you could imagine, sunshine, clouds, blue sky, wind, rain and even snow at one point. But being the true professionals that they are Jo Anna Garcia Swisher and Allen Leech together with their fellow cast members took it all in their stride.

Guests Nationwide

It has been a wonderful year for welcoming guests from all over Ireland. From Wexford to Westport from Donegal to Donaghadee, truly from all corners of the country. We welcomed many Frontline workers who needed well-earned breaks, couples needing respite and as we re-opened in June a host of families all keen to enjoy their new-found freedom to relax and unwind, sea swim, beach walk and chill in total comfort. Exploring Dublin and the Boyne Valley and making cherished memories along the way.

We’re delighted to now see you our overseas guests returning and to welcoming you all back with open arms gives us great heart going forward.
